Rosa Parks, President Lincoln, Teamwork & Dr. Seuss!

This week went by so quickly! I am more and more blown away by these little geniuses... they are busy mastering addition, subtraction, telling time, and investigating our heroes of yesterday!

We read a story about Rosa Parks and discussed her role in changing the world. The kids were so excited to find out that she worked with Martin Luther King Jr.

The students were quite taken with her courage, and perseverance.

We have talked about the roles that Abraham Lincoln has played in our nation's history as well.

In P.E. we have been building stamina, strengthening our muscles, and building our teamwork skills. The students are great sportsman/women cheering each other on as their partners crab walk, run, bunny hop, and bear crawl from one side to the other!

Some of the students put on a little skit for the rest of the class this week.

We have also been busy crafting our own silly, nonsensical stories inspired by Dr. Seuss in celebration of his birthday on March 2.

Friendship Week, Carrots in the Classroom, & Chinese New Year!

We have had so much fun this week! We had a wonderful time celebrating friendship with our Patwin Community by cleaning up campus, creating placemats for senior citizens, and designing teamwork posters! The students were busy at work scouting for classmates building friendships, too!

On Thursday we celebrated Chinese New Year by making Nian puppets, watching this short story, and reading about characteristics of those born in the Year of the Sheep/ Ram!

Coloring our Chinese dragons, and building friendships along the way...

We have some pretty angry looking dragons in our classroom!

Here are little snippits from our visit with Mr. Simon from the Davis Coop! We had a great time creating a story using ribbons and our imagination!

Below you will find some writing samples of stories we have been working ... our topics include our "Best Friends"  being "Lost" and an "Angry Day"! All I have to say is, "From the mouth of babes..." be prepared to be entertained!

A "small moment" writing... all about a visit to grandma's house :)

We also came up with some adjectives to describe ourselves... this is truly a great moment in a child's life... to be able to proudly say they are creative, thoughtful, kind, funny, fast, etc. is phenomenal... I love watching them light up as they associate themselves with these complementary, accurate descriptive words...

Writing Workshop, Time, Friendship, & OLF!

This was such an exciting week! These 1st graders have been busy little bees building friendships, learning about telling time, and cheering on their Patwin Hawks at the Oral Language Fair. I am so proud of all their accomplishments... They have really been growing up right in front of my eyes these last few weeks.

These little writers and illustrators have been hard at work sharing their expertise on owls and deer, and recounting personal stories. Our room buzzes with excitement when we are working on our writing projects... Students do an excellent job of expressing their thoughts and insights to our stories and real life events.

100 Days, Dressed for Success, & Ready for the Best!

We did it! We won the Patwin Spirit award last week!     Dressing for success was rewarded in tenfold... The kids were so proud, as am I!

Mrs. Smith won the Minute to Win It once again! For this challenge the contestants had to assemble as many Pennies for Patients collection boxes as possible within a minute.

Mrs. Smith also joined us as a Mystery Reader last Friday... She brought in such fun stories! We are loving Mystery Reader visits!

                                         Some Fun Friday Fun...

Our 100th Day of School celebrations with Mrs. Bowers' class... SO MUCH FUN!
